Constellation Brands has finalized its sale of six wine brands to The Wine Group, completing a deal first announced in April. The transaction includes popular brands Woodbridge, Meiomi, Robert Mondavi Private Selection, Cook's, SIMI, and J. Rogét, along with three California facilities and nearly 3,000 hectares of vineyard.
The sale, for an undisclosed amount, allows Constellation to refocus on "higher-end" brands including Robert Mondavi Winery, Kim Crawford, and Ruffino. CEO Bill Newlands cited alignment with "consumer-led premiumization trends" as the strategic driver.
The Wine Group gains 500 new employees and expanded innovation capabilities, adding to its existing portfolio of brands like Franzia and The Dreaming Tree.
