States Expand DTC Wine Shipping in 2025

In 2025, several states, including Alabama, Delaware, Mississippi, and Rhode Island, passed or expanded laws allowing direct-to-consumer wine shipping, marking another year of progress for winery access across the U.S. The progress was even seen in the spirits sector, with California enacting DTC spirits shipping.

Lawmakers continue to modernize alcohol regulations as consumer demand for convenient direct shipping grows. These changes contribute to a national patchwork that enables most wineries to reach consumers, while a few states still restrict the shipment of wine.

Industry groups say the trend reflects a broader effort to update regulations and open more market opportunities for producers of all sizes.
