Ahead of St. Patrick's Day, Irish whiskey was officially named the fourth-fastest-growing spirit category in the United States. Irish whiskey exports notably surpassed $1 billion for the first time in 2022, according to the Irish Whiskey Association (IWA).
As a result, Pernod Ricard's Jameson Irish Whiskey is now the fastest-growing whiskey brand in the world overall. The IWA has noted that millennials and Gen Z are avid consumers of the category, which also benefited from the growth of e-commerce sales throughout the course of the pandemic.
“Irish whiskey has benefitted from the growing global demand for premium, higher-priced Irish whiskey,” IWA Director William Lavelle said, “in line with consumers drinking less, but drinking better. We believe Irish whiskey can increasingly compete more with scotch at the higher price points and win more market share, particularly in the U.S.” [The Robb Report]
